Patient Share is a social networking platform for patients to get the information they need when faced with a health condition. Patients can connect with doctors, experts, and most importantly other patients who have experienced the same health condition and who can provide real-life, first-hand information.

My two-year old daughter was diagnosed with a rare and extremely aggressive pediatric cancer in 2006. My wife and I immediately started a journey of medical research online and in-person traveling around to different institutions as we were up against time searching for the best available treatments.

In March of 2009 my daughter needed brain surgery. I wanted to get a second opinion just to make sure that indeed other expert institutions followed the same treatment strategy and contacted another hospital. The hospital told me that I had to submit her formal medical records including all scans, register her and pay $7,500 before I could secure another doctor's opinion. Well, I never got a second opinion. I was out of time; surgery had to be done.

If PatientShare had been available to me at that time, I could have linked to another patient at several different hospitals and most likely gotten their advise from a real life experience in just a couple of minutes… and for free.

The most valuable research available comes from connecting with identical patients and asking them to share their treatment experiences with us. Sharing a three-year long treatment experience within minutes is invaluable.

Today my daughter is five years old, goes to school and has no evidence of disease.
